Johana Skalsky Presence is a multi-media artist based in New York. Johana received her BA and MA from NYU where she studied visual art and comparative ideas, and received her MFA from The Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University. Johana has been engaged in a multidisciplinary art practice involving the mediums of painting, sculpture, performance and photography for the past twenty-five years. Interconnections between freedom, power, autobiography, colour, rupture, utopian and dystopian juxtapositions, flowers, the sky, space, time and simultaneities continue to be her visual and conceptual interests.
Her work has been exhibited at Starlite Gallery, Time IN, HiArt! Gallery, Good Question Gallery, Revival Gallery, Quinebaug Valley Council for the Arts and Humanities, Amazing Things Art Center, AIB MFA, Art Gotham, Holliston Mill Open Studios, 808 Commonwealth Gallery, Brooklyn Artists Gym and sevengaits project space.
Johana will be participating in Beacon Open Studios, in Beacon, NY, on May 18th and 19th, 2019. She will be exhibiting new pieces from her portals series of photography, along with some new paintings on wood, that she is currently finishing. You will find her art at 395 Main St., Beacon, NY, from noon to 6 pm, during open studios.
Johana is currently in the process of printing the portals series on metal, bamboo and acrylic.
This summer, Johana is beginning several large scale paintings that will explore some of the visual and conceptual themes that she has been working with, on a smaller scale, over the past few years.
Future group exhibitions are currently being planned.
